![]() She went through life with a ‘strangers are just friends I haven’t met yet’ mentality, and it was incredibly endearing.ĭespite ordering the most, Tangle was the first to finish eating, and was now happily chatting away while her friends finished up. It was Tangle, after all, and that girl could and would befriend anyone she met (she befriended her, and that’s quite the achievement). Whisper really shouldn’t have been surprised. “And his parents’ and siblings’ names, and where he worked before, and his chao’s medical history, why?” She answered in-between bites. “You’re really talented!” Tangle exclaimed and went back to stuffing her face with croissants. “Thanks, I made it all myself!” He swelled with pride at her praise. “Yea, so are the croissants,” she turned to the wallaby who was now dusting some shelves “Hey Wally! Everything’s super tasty!” The girls laughed at Tangles feigned offended tone. “News to me.” Jewel muttered, but just loud enough for the other two to hear. “Hey, strawberries aren’t the only thing I eat alright!” the lemur chuckled, stuffing the pastry into her mouth. “Croissants?” Whisper commented “I thought you were going to get something strawberry flavored.” And lastly, Tangle carefully maneuvered her tail to place in front of her a plate full of… Jewel got something called an opera cake, and from the look on her face it tasted as well as it looked. She slipped into her chair, setting the plates in front of her friends.įor Whisper, nothing beats a good old-fashioned pound cake. Tangle was, in fact, walking back to their table, two plates in hand and one on her tail. “I’ll make it up to you, I promise,” Jewel’s face quickly morphed into a much less suspicious one “She’s coming, act normal.” Okay, maybe the scene was over exaggerated, but she had to admit it was a little funny. Tangle, staring at her, completely still, eyes wide and mouth agape. The wolf struggled to understand why she was so hung up on this.Ī part of her had a hunch, which she quickly dismissed and drop-kicked it into the depths of her mind. Jewel, who was still looking at her with an expectant look. At least there’s less risk of them being overheard. She wished they’d hurry up she was running on just a cup of coffee after all. Speaking of, what was taking Tangle so long? Whisper glanced over to the counter to see that the lemur was now fully engaged in some sort of friendly conversation with the server while he prepared the plates. “Great!” she gave her a smile that was just a bit too polite “Why don’t you try it out once she comes back?” “Sooooo…” Jewel finally broke Whisper out of her… argument? (How long had she been fighting with herself for?) “Have you thought about what I told you earlier?” And it’s scary, and it’s hard, and it’s not always pretty, but it’s also wonderful and I just… I just have to have faith that I’m safe with them and that they’re safe with me.” But we can’t let him dictate how we live our life forever, can we? He’s hurt us before. “He’s still out there, isn’t he? Imagine what he could do to them!” She’d continue. “Didn’t we say we wouldn’t?” She’d say, “Not until he’s gone?” ![]() Wow, what was that, six friends already? Whisper was on a roll.Ĭhaos, her past self would be horrified to hear her thinking like that. Maybe even friends? Did Jewel think so too? That would be nice. Plus, she liked to think her and Jewel were… close, somewhat. Don’t get her wrong, she liked Tangle’s endless ramblings as much as the next mobian, but it was nice to sit with someone who didn’t mind the quiet once in a while. While being stuck in this sort of situation with the best friend of your friend might be considered awkward to most, Whisper didn’t mind. It was just the two of them now, and a thick silence enveloped the table. She turned and skipped over to the counter, waving at the wallaby behind it. “Gotcha, I saw this cake in the display I think you’ll enjoy.” “Actually, I think I’d like to try something new this time.” Jewel answered. “I’ll go order for us” Tangle sprung up as soon as they were seated “the usual for you two?” The smell of freshly baked goods added a lot to the atmosphere, and to the growling of Whispers stomach. The walls were covered with shelves containing all sorts of knickknacks & framed photographs, and potted plants filled the corners of the room, as to not take up any space needed for the tables & chairs. The place was small, squeezing in between the buildings around it, but was remarkably cozy. Tangle was right - going to the pastry shop was a wonderful idea.
